From the moment we visited The Heartlands, we were greeted by smiling employees and the aroma of homemade cookies. It felt as if we were being welcomed into a friend’s home with holiday decorations lighting up the living room, beautiful furniture inviting us to get comfortable, and sounds of soothing music playing in the background. Hot or cold beverages were offered before the tour began and our hostess was always professional, yet friendly as if we were family. My 89 year old father was reluctant at first to even consider moving out of his house of 64 years. He had some health concerns and had been hospitalized for almost 3 months prior to coming to The Heartlands. His sight is challenged and past injuries had created a balance issue. Thankfully, he put his fears behind him and agreed to move into The Heartlands Assisted Living. His apartment was just the right size for his needs and the amenities allowed for safe and comfortable living. The staff members went above and beyond to check on him, monitor his daily needs and administer his medications right on time. They reminded him of upcoming appointments, invited him to participate in numerous activities, and even sat and just listened or visited when he wanted. Their care and attentiveness were truly appreciated. My father could ‘come and go’ as he pleased as he often signed out to have breakfast or lunch with friends. He also took advantage of the exercise equipment which is designed specifically for Senior Citizens to safely use and understand. Breakfast is his favorite meal of the day and the chef and her staff would take his order and never failed to please the palate! He enjoyed dining with other residents and made many new friends. Ken’s family could even join him for a delicious meal around the dinner table. Ken was able to regain his strength and mobility at The Heartlands and chose to move back into his home after his stay. He would definitely consider returning someday if the need arises. Ken has high regards for Jenn and Jess and the entire staff at The Heartlands. He will be stopping in to visit with them and to catch up with his “family” friends. Our Senior Citizens deserve a safe, loving environment where they feel secure, seen and heard. Family members will rest assured that their loved one will have exemplary care. I refer to The Heartlands as a Home and not a “facility”— It has all of the comforts of Home with the added bonus of continuous monitoring from professional caregivers. We are blessed to have this “Home of The Heartlands” right here in the Heart of Michigan!
